There are countless holiday moments to savor, but there is one in particular that I look forward to each year. Once all the wrapping is done, the annual reading of The Grinch and The Night Before Christmas is finished, and the boys are encased in their dreams of Santa and bulging stockings, my husband and I take a moment for ourselves. With nothing to light the room except the soft glow emanating from the Christmas tree, we sit close together on the couch, fingers intertwined, and soak in the quiet and reverence of the moment.
In that pocket of frozen time, a feeling of well-being and quiet joy washes over me like a gentle, warm wave. When the inevitable chaos of daily life muddles my mind, I try to step back to this moment….a snapshot of true happiness and contentment. Surrounded by family, Christmas is a day to celebrate those relationships that sustain us each day, but are often the ones we tend to take for granted. It is a reminder to nurture those bonds and appreciate what we have, in spite of and because of the imperfections. My family, my friends…to me, they are what the holidays are truly about.
I appreciate all of you, my readers and friends, and wish you many moments of joy and contentment over the holidays.
