As I mentioned in my last post, Roasted Tomatillo Salsa Verde, I have a thing for fall and everything it brings, from comfort food to tailgating grub. While I am not quite ready for the chill of winter, I relish the feeling of my husband pulling the extra blanket over top of us in the middle of the night. Most mornings, we sit outside drinking our cups of coffee and tea, steam curling from the hot liquids as we wrap our hands around the mugs to keep our fingers warm. We watch the hummingbirds whiz back and forth between the feeder and the trumpet vine, dodging each other at top speed. This morning, as the clouds of the impending thunderstorm rolled over the mountains, we had one lone hummingbird visitor. We felt certain he came to say good-bye on behalf of his brothers and sisters before embarking on the long journey south.
As a celebration of our summer – traveling adventures, days at the pool and bike rides to the park – we cooked up a backyard barbecue feast that included some of our favorites. Grilled Tri-Tip Steak with Molasses Chili Marinade was the star of the show, with a blue potato salad, fresh corn and sweet watermelon acting as sidekicks. The only thing we were missing was a sugar cone filled with Almond Joy Chocolate & Coconut Ice Cream.
As we move into fall, I have my mind on other dishes. Easy comfort foods, such as soups and sandwiches, and tailgating food, from dips to quesadillas, rule the menu. I would love to hear about your favorite comfort food and tailgating recipes. So, if you feel so inclined, feel free to leave a link or recipe in the comments section.

Oh dear, is it fall already? I’m not even tan yet….
Thankfully, fall produce and recipes will help ease the transition. Thanks for the list!
Becca, the tan never happened for me either, but this gorgeous fall weather is easing that disappointment.
What an awesome looking roundup! I can not wait for fall food, but I am trying my damnedest to hold out till the end of September….but I don’t think I am going to make it with all of these delicious ideas!
I keep telling myself that I should hold off until the official first day of fall, but I just can’t resist.
Fall! Did you say Fall? I can’t believe it is fall somewhere in the world already!
I’m going to give that Greek Turkey Meatball Sandwich a try (it has my son’s name on it) anyway, even if it won’t be fall here until oh… Thanksgiving time!
I can imagine that things are still steamy in Arizona. You’ll have to visit Utah again for a little taste of the cool weather.
I could go for a biiiiig sandwich right now. Just not sure which one to choose!! haha
There’s something about a warm, grilled sandwich that is so comforting.
Mt favourote time of year is coming fast but there is still plenty of time for tailgaiting and picnics.
Absolutely! Fall picnics, surrounded by changing leaves, are always fun.
Fall is bittersweet for me. I look forward to the comfort foods, the cool crisp air, and snuggling with a blanket and a hot cup of tea; but I miss the fun of the summer, the heat, and the walks and hikes we go on.
This is a great recipe round up! For tailgating, or for lazy football Sunday’s, I recommend a pulled pork recipewe just posted though have used for years. It’s always a hit.
I hear you, Chris. I will some of those things about summer, too. This pulled pork sounds like the perfect fall dish!
My comfort foods are soups, chili and pasta… can you say homemade mac & cheese! Mmmm!

Mmmm, indeed. That sounds awfully tempting, Brittany.
Everything looks fantastic! I’m so ready for fall I can hardly sit STILL.
I feel the same way, Bev.
I’m definitely drawn to the Fall foods, too. Soups and stews, here I come. Love this collection of your recipes.
Thanks so much, Lydia. I can’t wait to dive into soups and stews.
It’s cold and rainy here in Kentucky today, so this is the perfect post! Some of my favorite comfort foods are:
Skillet Gnocchi with White Beans and Chard: http://www.theworldinmykitchen.com/2010/11/skillet-gnocchi-with-chard-and-white.html
Gallo Pinto (Costa Rican Black Beans and Rice): http://www.theworldinmykitchen.com/2010/08/gallo-pinto-costa-rican-rice-and-beans.html

I can’t wait to check out those recipes. Thanks so much for sharing them, Mindy!
so many of these would be my favorites too just like the quesadilla … I can just see them in the coming months in the weekly recipe contest going over at Game-Day Week – Thank you for entering one this week and good luck….
Thanks, Drick. Your weekly contest is featuring some great recipes.
This post should be in a cookbook… all these amazing recipes!!!
I’m so excited for fall to be here! I love this time of year. This roundup of goodies is perfect!
What a perfect collection of fall foods! Thanks for sharing!
We are all about the crockpot and the wonderful soups and stews for fall. There are just too many “comfort” foods for me to name. Well, maybe just one. . . .. . chili!
I can’t wait for tailgating! We always tailgate before hockey games
Dara, autumn is the best of the seasons as far as I’m concerned. I love living in a place with four very distinct seasons and all the beauty that they each bring. Weather, colours, activities and food. Your comfort food looks fantastic! I’d love to have some on the first Sunday of football season! Me? I always choose wings and mac and cheese. (my latest post is mac and cheese)
This post has made me so incredibly excited about fall comfort food! I can’t wait to bust out my crock pot
I am so with you Dara. Ready for a cool down, but not ready for the white sun.
I have been yearning for total comfort food lately as well. I can’t wait to make soup, soup and more soup. My kids love Baked Potato Soup (http://www.farmgirlgourmet.com/2010/11/baked-potato-soup.html) and have already started begging for it. Not the best option when it’s 95 degrees, but that will change very soon. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipes! You are amazing!
xoxo

Well my friend you know this is my favorite time of year. All of your recipes are stunning & I want to try each & every one of them. The thought of the steamy cup of coffee with the cool air whipping by is breathtaking
By the way here is a recipe to share, these Sweet Potato Stacks with Blue Cheese and Bacon are perfect for this time of year

I know how you feel about the hummingbirds, I hate to see them go! It does signal the end of summer.
Tailgating is such fun food! Great ideas.
The summer season clings a bit longer in Los Angeles than most areas of the US. But I too am looking forward to the fall. Just the thought of driving around Los Angeles with the top down on one of those crisp blue days of autumn makes me love the big crazy city all the more. GREG
My favorite thing about fall is the food. It all looks great. Wish I was having the turkey panini for lunch
There is nothing like great cold-weather comfort food! Wonderful collection of recipes!
Great recipe round up! I’m dying for those shrimp quesadillas
awesome post Dara! I can’t wait to get cooking with all of the fall comforts!
It all looks amazing! I’ve been meaning to try those sliders ever since you posted them… it’s time!
