Fun Halloween Recipes & Crafts: Link-Up

Fun-Halloween-Recipe-&-Crafts-Link-Up-Cookin'-Canuck

Okay, this is the deal. There are some things regarding Halloween that I excel at and other things that …well…I suck at. The good: fun, tasty recipes, such as the donuts or roasted pumpkin seeds you see above, that kids and adults alike can snack on while doing cute ghost-y and witch-y crafts. The bad: any sort of ghost-y or witch-y craft. I have mentioned before that I am severely sketchically-challenged. You haven’t heard that word before? I made it up. It means that I can’t draw my way out of a box, even if that box had a large opening on one side. It’s that bad. This doesn’t mean that I completely throw up my hands and avoid doing all crafts with my kids. Nope, it just means that I walk away from the project with my hands covered in glue, pieces of craft paper in my hair and art projects that are decidedly lopsided. My kids don’t care, of course. But I assure you that photos of those projects will never mar the pages of this blog. So, this is where you come in.

I need help. My kids want to make some fun Halloween food and crafts, and I am certain that they will never speak to me again if they have to endure one more paper pumpkin-making session. After cruising around numerous food and craft blogs, I know you have some amazing ideas to share. So, please help me redeem myself in the eyes of my children. Let them adorn me with the “Mum of the Year” award – because when I am doing your art projects with them, I will be taking full credit. Just a heads-up.

Please share/link up your Halloween recipes and craft ideas below. My kids and I will be forever grateful.

Back in the day my daughter and I used to make Hallowe’en treats out of Rice Krispies similar to ones found on this site. The best crafts t me seem to still involve being able to reap the rewards by eating:D http://www.ricekrispies.com/recipes/cocoa-halloween-cat-treats.aspx#/recipes/cocoa-halloween-cat-treats

I think pumpkin crafts are fun especially when food is involved! Can’t wait to see everyone’s links! :)

Fun, Dara! I used to do a lot more crafts with my kids…maybe now that the chillier weather is on it’s way, we will get back into it! I linked up some pumpkin chocolate chip bran muffins my kids loved!

I’ve done these ghosts with a group of 10 & 11 year old girls:

I’m sure you can do the eyes differently and not call them “girlie ghosts”. ;)

I’ve also found Family Fun to have a lot of cool ideas.

My kids are older now and I used to make all of their costumes but I’m thinking the only ‘craft’ of any measure that we did that they loved was pumpkin carving. And not just regular pumpkin carving. Have you ever seen those kits for cool designs…we loved those. You use a pattern and a pick and basically outline the pattern that you’ve attached to your pumpkin with the pick, then remove the pattern and cut out the design with the carving tools they provide in the kit.

Really pretty simple but the results were always pretty spectacular and my girls could always help. That’s all I’ve got!

I’ve never been good at the craft thing either. I’ll be sure to check back for some ideas in hopes to ignite the Halloween spirit!

Hi Dara, I guess I didn’t fill out the linky thing correctly, I love crafts but the tech stuff doesn’t love me, lol. The crackers I shared are really simple, no drawing involved. Thanks.

I am not good at crafty things either – i used to be but somehow i lost my patience and then also lost my creativity in crafting. But with a little girl coming i am trying to work on it and do some crafting for the nursery.

My daughter reminded me of something we use to do that was easy and fun. We used to hand out tootsie roll ghosts to Trick or Treaters. A tootsie roll pop covered with a white tissue or napkin, tied at the ‘neck’ with ribbon and then dots placed on the face to have it look like a ghost. I’ve included a link in your links where I found a photo. I remember the year when I was the room mother for my daughter’s class and I volunteered to make them for all of the first graders…how did I forget making 100 of those?!

Barb, this is such a cute idea! You made 100 of these? Now that is truly a labor of love.

Hi Dara,

I’ve talked to you on twitter a few times as GlugleGFree. (We talk about hockey.) My friend Shirley from gfe-gluten-free easily sent me your way. I really need to check out your blog more. Just made roasted pumpkin seeds for the first time the other day. YUM! I am going to find your recipe, though, because I had some more fresh seeds rarin’ to go. Thanks for the link up.

Hi, Tia. It’s good to talk to you again. I’m so glad you stopped by! Roasted pumpkin seeds are some of our favorite Halloween treats. It just wouldn’t be October without them.
