Last year, I took a few cake decorating courses at a local craft store and was very surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. As I mentioned in the past, I can’t draw or paint my way out of a box and I assumed that this artistic ineptitude would cross over to cake decorating. Perhaps it’s because I was hopped up on sugar (had to taste the icing, you know – quality control), but the icing bag felt good in my hand. I also learned so much from the amazing community of decorators on Cake Central. So, as a quick foray away from my usual recipes, I thought I would share a few photos of my cake experiments with you. All figures and bows are made from fondant and the cake coverings are either done in buttercream or fondant.
And, of course, there had to be a cake to celebrate one of the most highly anticipated American days – Superbowl Sunday. I still getting harassment from my Canadian friends. I promised to make up for it by making a big Stanley Cup cake when the Vancouver Canucks make it into the Stanley Cup finals.
