These vegetarian recipes for the grill are perfect for any summertime barbecue.
I love it when my readers are straight with me (well, at least when they’re nice about it.) A couple of weeks ago, I posed a question on my Facebook page, asking what types of recipes you’d like to see in the coming weeks and months. The overwhelming majority responded with “vegetarian recipes for the grill”. One reader put it succinctly when she said, “Definitely vegetarian! Being veggie doesn’t mean you eat salads for every meal…..looking for great summer ideas.”
Message received…nose happily to grindstone.
With Canada Day (July 1st) and the 4th of July just around the corner, you want to make sure you are prepared for your vegetarian guests. Well, and anyone else who just wants a break from the standard hamburgers and hot dogs. The recipes featured in this post are some of my favorite appetizers, side dishes and entrees, easily competing with some of our tried-and-true meat-focused recipes.
If you have any favorite vegetarian recipes, please feel free to share the recipes or links in the comments section. We could always use more ideas!

I grill almost exclusively during the summer months so this list is great for someone like me who is always looking for new ideas.
One of my favorites isn’t really a recipe but we had it again last night. I purchased a flatbread from the grocery, toasted both sides briefly and then covered the top with mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. A dash of olive oil, some salt and pepper and grilled it on low until the cheese started to melt. Divine I tell ya!

We have a lot of vegetarian friends, and I always struggle with what to prepare when they come over in the summer and we’re grilling. We’ve got grilled zucchini rolls on the menu for this evening — really looking forward to it! And I also may put a “no zucchini” sign on my front door! (And P.S. Your photography is really beautiful.)

Dara,
I saw those zucchini roll ups, got our first summer squash in the CSA farm share, and promptly got out the grill and grabbed the goat cheese. I chopped ours up into a salad, and the leftovers went on a quick ciabatta pizza bite. Wonderful flavor combo–thanks for this comprehensive and beautiful list!
