I’d like to think of myself as a simple woman when it comes to Mother’s Day celebrations. I strive to be that mum that skirts around the “high maintenance” label and lands somewhere closer to “easy to please”. Then again, I’ll be watching my family closely as they read this post. If they burst into hysterical laughter as soon as they read this, then clearly I have some work to do.
What I’m trying to say is that I really don’t need a Mother’s Day gift. And no, this isn’t one of those female things where we say something virtuous, while really hoping for a box of diamonds (and then becoming quietly P.O.’d when our family doesn’t read our minds and buy said box of diamonds).
All I really need is some good food (brunch, please), a few extra hugs and a little quiet time to take a nap. I’m not going to get all weird and describe my ideal napping conditions…let’s just say it involves a blanket, a patch of grass and a gentle breeze…but I will share my ideal brunch spread. It includes sweet and savory offerings, a true mix of breakfast and lunch.
I mean, really, who can resist a bite of perfectly blanched asparagus with vinaigrette, chased with a slice of crispy bacon? Or a sip of a Caesar cocktail to wash down a seared shrimp salad?
Sweet. Savory. Breakfast. Lunch. All good.
