This holiday weekend represents a time when two parts of my world collide. Today, July 1st, is Canada Day and my countrymen and women are celebrating with backyard barbecues, parades and fireworks displays. Last year I gave you a brief history lesson on Canada Day, so be sure to check that out so you can "wow" your friends during your next cutthroat round of Trivial Pursuit. (Does anyone actually play Trivial Pursuit anymore? Maybe they need to make a Wii version to re-ignite some interest.) A few days later, I will be celebrating July 4th with my husband and kids, digging into our own grilled favorites and keeping cool with ice cream cones and water fights.
Blackberry & Strawberry Lemon Cakes
While I am giving you plenty of links for recipes from my own site, I strongly encourage you (that's one step short of threatening, but in a "Happy Holiday" friendly kind of way) to check out the fabulous appetizers, side dishes, entrees and vegetarian dishes shared by some amazing bloggers for our Get Grillin' event.
Happy Canada Day and Happy Fourth of July! Be safe, have fun and eat well.

Hope you had a great Canada Day and 4th of July. We celebrated Canada's 144th at a cottage in central Ontario just south of Algonquin Park...absolutely spectacular spot, and we even managed to use a few of your recipes (drinks AND food) to keep us happy! The weather could not have been more perfect. Re: Trivial Pursuit (we have the Canadian Version at home and still play in the summer on rainy days!)...they DO have a Wii version and I received it for Christmas last year!

It sounds as though you were in a beautiful spot for Canada Day. I'm so glad you were able to use some of my recipes during your holiday. I need to seek out a copy of that Wii Trivial Pursuit - how fun!

I so should have not come here on an empty stomach, just curious about what you pulled together. I should have known better; that you would have a fabulous mix of good food. Should have. Now starving and it's all your fault. But I do have some ideas! 🙂
