“Only five more days, Mum.” That was the greeting yesterday morning. No “Good morning, Mum”, no hug – just the countdown to football’s biggest day of the year. If you don’t follow NFL news, my son would want me to tell you that his beloved New York Giants are playing the New England Patriots in a knockdown, drag-out showdown. He is practically sleeping in his New York Giants’ jersey and baseball hat, determined that his dedication to Eli Manning and the rest of the boys will determine Sunday’s outcome. While my son is busy brushing up on stats, practicing his touchdown dance and checking the status of each player online, I am sifting through recipes and dreaming up our menu for the big day.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am a sports fan and will not be watching “just for the ads” (though it’s hard not to be entertained by football-playing Clydesdales). I will be right in there, shaking my fist at the refs, chest-bumping on the touchdowns and groaning at the fumbles. But I’ll also be eating. Appetizer, dips, wings – these are all “must-haves” on Super Bowl Sunday.
Here are a few of our favorite nibbles and meals. I’d love to hear about some of your tried-and-true Super Bowl recipes. Please feel free to leave recipes or links in the comments section.

What a great collection!!! Some of my go-to’s are guacamole, homemade hummus, there’s a sausage antipasto skewer on my blog everyone loves (http://spoonfulofsugarfree.com/2011/11/01/antipasto-skewers/), and I never think you can go wrong with date-nut bites in any flavor.
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
Alex, I love the sound of your antipasto skewers and will definitely check that out.
the wicked noodle
Dara, they all look amazing! Super Bowl is all about the food and the ads for me π
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
Kristy, I actually love watching the game, but the food and ads are also a big part of the day.
Maria
We are looking forward to Sunday. I am cheering for the Giants and Josh is rooting for the Patriots:) Should be a good game…with good food too:)
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
Uh oh, you two better sit on opposite sides of the room!

I find it hard to get ‘Super’ excited about the game if I don’t care about the teams that are playing…so the food is most often the star. Great lineup, now I’m hungry and most importantly? Coming from St Louis, the home of Anheiser Busch; I’ve seen some of the Clydesdale’s up close and though not a beer drinker; can’t help but love those horses.
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
Those horses are gorgeous. How lucky that you’ve seen those beauties up close! I would love one of your fine cocktails on Super Bowl Sunday.
Katie {Epicurean Mom Blog}
We are so looking forward to the super bowl too!
All of these sounds fab! I’m especially digging the caesar cocktail, i love bloody’s!
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
Thank you, Katie. That Caesar is one of my all-time favorite cocktails.
Liz
Of course, I zeroed in on the sweets!!! Those Reese’s cheesecake bars look fabulous!
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
Liz, I promise you will not be disappointed if you make those cheesecake bars. They really are unforgettable!
Tracy
Delicious recipes, Dara! Although I do love the game, one of my favorite parts about the Super Bowl is the food, and everything here looks fabulous! π
Dara (Cookin' Canuck)
I’ll be thinking of you and the rest of our fantasy football gals on Super Bowl Sunday.

Chris @ TheKeenanCookbook
Even though I’m not that big a football fan, I am pleased to hear your son is a fan of the Giants, our home team here π
I’ll be honest, I like Super Bowl more for the ads (guess that’s why I’m a marketer) and the food.
Awesome round up here! I wish you were closer so I can stop by, hahah.
Enjoy game day! π

Dara, that’s so funny! My little guys just know we’re having a party this weekend. they have no idea for what!! All the dishes look amazing. π
Jeanette
It is going to be a big game! I think this weekend is probably the next biggest day after Christmas in my house since the Giants are in the Super Bowl this year! Go Giants!
Jean (Lemons and Anchovies)
I haven’t followed football since I left my parents’ home but I think I just might start again if any of this food will be served. You’ve got so much great stuff here that I almost don’t know where to start. That’s a good problem to have. π
Steve @ the black peppercorn
Go Giants is right! Woohoo! I am loving your collection of snacks you have here. I am putting together my menu for Sunday and I may have one or two of these on the list!
Roxana GreenGirl { A little bit of everything}
